Sort, photograph and list secondhand items that sell
A good listing starts with sorting well and ends with honest photos. How to make it easy for a buyer to say yes.

Sort into three piles
Keep, sell, and donate or recycle. Be honest with yourself: things unused for a year are rarely missed. Sell what has clear value and is easy to describe; donate the rest.
Clean first
Dust, fingerprints and hair show clearly in photos. Wipe items down, vacuum textiles and remove stickers that do not belong.
How to photograph
- Daylight from a window gives the best colours – avoid flash.
- A calm, neutral background with no personal items in shot.
- One full front view, one from the side, and close-ups of labels and any damage.
- Show size with something familiar alongside, or give measurements.
Write an honest description
- Brand, model and dimensions.
- Condition – mention damage rather than letting the buyer find it.
- Why you are selling, if it feels natural.
- How the buyer collects and whether anything needs dismantling.
